Day 10 - last day

day 10

Today we ready fly to Beijing from lhasa airport.
At lhasa Airport, I found things so small , small airport , small book store and small resto. Dramatically but still so mysterious.

On Flight
I always slept on the flight - feel so good because of my travel pillow – nice excuse ya…… actually I always easily fall asleep hahahaha
The flight was pleasant from lhasa to Beijing.

When was my last time in Beijing?
Its Feb 15 2007 from Beijing back to Jakarta , WOW . It is incredible that I didn't set my foot in Beijing for about one and half year. It was a long time ago. in 2008 I am back again , I have a lot of friends in Beijing, but I don't know they can meet for reunion or not coz may be they go out for vacation but I try to contact with them and make a reunion.

Stepping out of the airport, we began to decided how we should go to downtown. Taxi station is on the left hand and the airport bus stop is on the right.

OUR CHOICE : RIGHT
Our destination is Zhong Guan Chun terminal , it’s the near to tsing hua univ and wu dao kou area , and we take a bus from there to reka’s house.

Why we choose the airport bus ?
1. its cheap … only RMB 16 and we don’t have many luggage
2. To avoid MR Un-Fortune taxy driver , coz its already 8.30 pm and we don’t want he take us round and around also pretend he don’t know wu dao kou area.
3. The bus large with large seat and it is also fast.
4. Maybe outside still traffic jam

Beijing changed a lot, I would say I am so impressed by Beijing again after last visit about one and half year ago. The roads are better, new subway – yeah… and cheap ticket too - , new building to shopping and also new metro from airport to everywhere

It takes about 45 minutes to get reka’s house

Arriving at reka’s house , it is already 9:30 PM we sleeping in reka’s house for few days . I am feeling good and starving too. We meet we balaz , he from hungary same with reka. So if they talk with their language I feel they argue each other…hahahaha but its not.

Oh… thanks to reka for feed us with BBQ street… yummy… I still cant believe I try food street again and also reka said we must run away if police come because if forbidden to sell the food in the street… GOSH…I am tired , starving and I must run too ? but thanks to God no police patrol in this area.

We eat , eat and eat that night .i don’t realize it 1:30 AM now. I think it is the time to go to bed .

day 10

7. liat liat park olympic
8. jalan jalan di tsing hua uni..,,,
9. beli dvd bajakan harganya sekitar 8 atau 7 rmb
10 ke houhai , bei hai , dll

kita naek pesawat tuh jam 3 an , stop over di chong qing gitu dah jam 6 sore.
nyampe di airport beijing dah jam 9 an malem , tunggu bagasi lamaaaaaaaaaaaaa bener

Day 8 - shigatse - Birthday Girl

1 Oct 2008

today , wednesday its a special day coz its Geraldine birthday also China celebrated National Day too but not like in Beijing or any city in China so crowded, rush , people everywhere , in here i feel no body care about 1st oct.

the birthday Girl

Anyway we are ready for our next journey. We are in Shigatse city, its about 250 km southwest of lhasa. Shigatse is the second largest city of Tibet. In shigatse have many monastery , the famous is tashilhunpo monastery. We arrived at Tashilhunpo Monastery around 7.30 am and I saw before The monastery open many people pray in front of the monastery.

Shigatse’s main attraction is tashilhunpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen lama. Built in 1447 by a nephew of Tsongkhapa , the monastery once house over 4000 monks , but there are now only 600.

Apart from a giant stute of Jampa (Maitreya) Buddha (nearly 27 m high) in the temple of the Maitreya , the monastery is also famed for its Grand Hall , which houses the opulent tomb (containing 85 kg of gold and masses of jewels) of the fourth Panchen Lama.

It was pretty unbelievable seeing this huge sculpture inside the chapel built for it.

The one thing I noticed with every house no matter how small or old it was was that they all had colors. Whether it was around the door trim or along the roof line every home was painted with blue, red, yellow, and green. I thought that was incredible.

Later we drove along the Lhasa River which flows through the river valley. The river was huge and eventually turned into the Brahmaputra River that flows all the way down to India. The way the Ganges mountains reflected on the river like a mirror was awesome. In places it was as still as glass and in others it rocked like the ocean.

We drive back to Lhasa. We arrived at lhasa around 4 pm , and we planning visit norbulingka ( 罗布林卡国家公园)– jewel park – its was Dalai lama’s summer palace since the 7th dalai lama from the 1780s up until thePRC takeover in the late 1950s.

Actually norbulingka its not in our schedule but we still have time to visit the park and we pay ticket for RMB 70 / person because we are foreigner but only RMB 2 for Tibetans .

Its was quite a different experience visiting Norbulingka compared with the Potala Palace.

the park is crowded with picnickers, traditional Tibetan opera performances are also held there EVEN they bring a TENT !!! maybe to enjoying the height of autumn weather

I think The gardens are a favourite picnic spot in Lhasa and that time the Sho Dun festival or Yoghurt Festival but we didn’t find yoghurt shop inside hahahahaha only the colourfull flags written yoghurt festival.

Walking along the road in the palace, we were amazed with the park. The park so big with several palace inside , and the weather not too hot with the chilly wind blowing, with a lot of flowers , grass .

there also ZOO , yes.. inside the park there is a zoo , but the condition very bad. I think that’s a worst zoo I ever visit in china.

Day 5 - Guang Zhou - Lhasa - Tibet

Sept 28 2008

It’s 4:30 a.m. and time for us to wake up. Our flight from guang zhou to lasha 8 am but we haven’t get the ticket from our tour agent. And claire’s driver waiting us around 5.45am.

arghhhhhhhhhhh so sleepy but we must wake up, prepare go to guang zhou airport for the flight to lhasa – we ate our breakfast on the way to airport -.

We have arrived early coz we don’t have any idea about the ticket and whom we will meet – everything can be happen in china - hehehehe.

Our flight from guang zhou – lhasa , will stop in chongqing to change the flight

and Yeah….. boarding the flight was kind of stressful and going through immigration was so many problem.

Security is extremely tight at the airport. All luggage goes through an MRI machine and passengers through metal detectors just to get inside the terminal.

1. Christ give me seal document , our travel agent said we cant opent the document because its secret , when we arrived at lhasa just give the document to our guide.THATS IT , if u open it, our trip will be cancel.

2.So of course we remember what our agent said, but the problem when we want to check in the airport officer want us to open the document , they want to see our permit after long argue with them we let them open the document.

3.Customs was a little different , passengers who have flight ticket to lhasa or chong qing have own line to queue the customs and before we passing our body through the machine we must take off our shoes and put them through the machine. No vehicles are allowed to pull up front.

THE HOLY DOCUMENT - TIBET PERMIT

Fuih… after all the custom , we finally sitting at the gate, the announcement came that the flight to Lhasa would board in fifteen minutes. A little wave of excitement came over me. I still can’t quite believe we’re about to get on a plane to Lhasa – Tibet !

Yeah… TIBET Here We Come, we prepare for this tibet trip from june , but serious research around end of aug but I think its not enough to make us stay as comfortable as possible because we heard that people will exercise at least 6 month to go there , but we didn’t do anything even jogging everymorning to prepare the weather.

we arrived at Lhasa Gonggar airport at 2 PM the airport is not actually in lhasa , but is 2 hours away. We were ready to get off the flight and we followed the crowd of the people to the area where passangers are picked up. We were look for a sign with one of our names on it and I finally saw a man waving a sign that wrote our name. We waved to him and he beckoned us over. He told us that his name was Wang Dui and that he would be our guide during our stay. We walked over the car that we would use for our travels and met our driver.

They greet us with white silk prayer cloths that they drape around our necks. We climb into a car and on the way to our hotel. We promptly stopped for take a first picture to see Buddha that had ben carved into this rock and so many prayer flags drapped all over the hill.

Buddha... right there waiting for us .

Our guide took us to our hotel and we will meet them around 5pm to had dinner with them a. Our hotel was a 3 star hotel and near with potala palace , just cross the street.

first impression about Tibet’s capital city – Lhasa - Lhasa literally means "place of the gods" There are many police controls around Lhasa.

Near our hotel we headed down was lined with army trucks and The soldiers had set up 1 place with various position , 1 soldier see in the north side , west side , south side and the last see the east side, I want to take a pic but I am afraid if they know I took a pic I will go to trouble zone.

Speaking of food, Our first dinner in Tibet we went to Lhasa Kitchen ,

around barkhor lhasa area.

We order tibet native food such as tsampa , yak momos (momos are the Tibetan version of the Chinese dumplings) , some Indian food also we ordered butter tea.

We returned to the Hotel and start to take a rest. When I do sleep I feel so uncomfortable may be because of the high altitudes, its feels like u already sleep very long time. I always woke up after 2 hours slept and its still dark. It’s so terrible when you keep waking up in the night, checking the time, and get frustrated because it’s not time to get up yet and hope its will over soon.

For me and ge, we still have a planning to stay at Mt Everest Base Camp and its will be a story to tell to our grandchildren. hehehehehe

coz i always believe if u can think about it so u can do it.

we try to find medicine store to buy some high altitude medicine *just in case in Tibet we got sick*

Lunch time, me , Geraldine and Claire meet eveline – she also from philippine – Claire take us to Japanese restaurant “ roku roku “is and I think one of the best Japanese resto in Guangzhou .
The interior of the restaurant is good and cozy.Upon entering the establishment, we were immediately confronted with a fresh sushi bar. Hmmmmmmmmm yummy….
The staff gives us room –we share the room with Chinese family - with a very open flow where light and aromas are free to smell and its make me so hungry .

We ordered set meal of tepanyaki , chef very quick preparing our meal and I love to watch the chef slice and dice the food.
I received my first order , miso soup , sashimi salad , rice , and thin slices of meat. The meat sooooooooooo good its like melted in my mouth. It was marvelous!
As part of the set menu we were served ,everybody so full, me too and I feel sleepy hahahahaha cant take food anymore miso soup , fruits , ice cream , sashimi salad , meat , rice gosh.. so full.

It’s a great lunch with good converstation also we can watch each item is prepared one by one.
The overall experience at Roku-Roku was awesome. A healthy meal there could set you back a good RMB 50 per head, its actually RMB 55 but Claire’s have a member card.

for the standard of service and quality of food they provide is worth it.Prices are at the high end but worth it for the quality of the food.

After lunch claire's driver took us to medicine store , we want to buy some high altitude medicine , because tomorrow we will fly to Lhasa - Tibet.

and you know what.. i am so surprised that ge bought so many different type, different brand of chocolate to bring it to our tibet journey

and also she remember my fav dried mangoes from her country,i am so touch even she said she bought it in hong kong. hahahahahaha mmmmmmmmmmm yummy

i take a nap while ge finishing her report , and our dinner its chinese food. Gosh we order everything may be because we still cant believed that we meet again after our last trip to yunnan province and we are in china again , in this time we will go to tibet

Day 2 - Macau - explore it -

Sept 25 2008

I used my energy to the fullest for everyday whole day of fun, thrills and adventure even though i been there before but I always want to explore it again.

6.30
woke up and I have extra energy to explore macau until late hehehehe
Lovely morning with blue sky and its not raining yeahhh….
7:00 – took a bath
7:30 – ate breakfast – bread with nuttella spread but I still hungry so I ate rice with dried meat hahahaha

7:45 – out from my auntie house
7:45 – went to the shop to buy cheapest candy , I need the coins to take a bus
8:00 – waited for a bus
8:15 –
road a bus , its 3.3 MOP I took bus no.11 to Ruins of St Paul's
Just Cross the street and less than five minutes walk from the bus station its Senado Square the famous fountain has been renovated several times.

The Senado Square is paved with a wave-patterned mosaic of colored stones, created by Portuguese.

From the main road to the church of St. Dominic, the pavement extends to the ruins of St. Paul.
Within 2 minutes of walk I come to the Cathedral Square and the Cathedral is on my front.
8:30 - Sto. Domingo Church in Macau / St. Dominic's Church

- A very nice church with lemon yellow motif in Rua de S. Domingos - The church is beautiful in the outside and the inside. After taking some photos of the site I follow the route to the Leal Senado Square.

St Dominic's Church was built by three Spanish Dominican priests who originally came from Mexico in the 1587. The Church features a baroque architecture with a classic and elegant style. and it is also connected to the brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary. It was here that the first Portuguese newspaper was published on Chinese soil, A Abelha da China, on 12th September 1822. Later in 1929, this church integrated the worship of Our Lady of Fátima into its religious service, based on the account of the miraculous sighting that three shepherd children witnessed in Fátima, Portugal. After its establishment in Macau, through this church, the popular cult of Our Lady of Fátima expanded to other places in Asia. The "Reliquary Treasury" near the church has a collection of over three hundred catholic antiques.

visit shops: Bossini, Giordano, the body shop , etc.

9:00 - The Ruins of St. Paul's (
Portuguese: Ruínas de São Paulo)

One of the famous landmarks of Macau & a designated UN heritage site and I WAS THERE AGAIN !! :D

The Ruins of St. Paul's (Portuguese: Ruínas de São Paulo) refer to the façade of what was originally the Cathedral of St. Paul, a 17th century Portuguese cathedral in Macau dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle. STOP 2 ~ Mount Fortress and Museum of Macau The Fortress was built in the 16th century for protecting the properties of Jesuit in Macau. Later it was seized by the Governor, for the defense of Macau. Within the interior of the fortress, you can see the Museum of Macau which was built on the hill in the 1990s. The museum presents the history of the city and territory of the former Portuguese colony of Macau.
In 1835 a fire swept through the complex destroying everything except the front stone faced facade. It has been built 3 times, and each time has met with tragedy, twice with fire and once with a typhoon. Each time the front face has remained.

The Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt was also built behind The Ruins of St. Paul's . It has exhibitions of religions artworks including paintings, sculptures and statues.

9:30 I arrive at the Mount Fortress. The tree covered park at the top of the fort has a panoramic view of the mainland area of Macau. After taking some photographs I visit the Museum of Macau, which is located just inside the fortress.

There are 3 floors in the museum, in which the 1st floor displays the beginnings of Macau and the arrival of Portuguese traders and Jesuit missionaries in the 16th century. In the 2nd floor of the museum, it exhibits the daily life and traditions of old Macau.
The top floor, the only one above ground, shows the modern Macau and its plans for the future.

Adjacent to the ruins is the Mount Fortress, which offers the best views across the sprawling city. The fort dates from 1632 and, with its cobblestone paths, towering stone walls and the Macau Museum, is worth the wheeze-inducing walk to the top.The fort's high perch also offers a perfect view of the lotus-shaped Grand Lisboa Casino, Macau's largest. A 40-storey hotel sits atop the sphere-shaped casino podium, which boasts another title as the world's largest LED screen.

Look at the watch it is 11:00 a.m. but now I’m feeling a little bit hungry again…
OH NOOOOOOOO
There are some coffee shops near the exit of the museum, but they are quite expensive than others, also the taste is not as good as others with lower price.

Follow the route back to the Ruins of St. Paul then descend ahead to a souvenir street I find some delicious Portuguese egg tart. It tastes sweet and crunchy and it only cost MOP 5 to MOP 7 per each mmm yummy…

and i also try dried meat , or pork ??? i am not sure.. and its so delicious

Relax , enjoyed everything through my eyes

Macau have many temples too, including A Ma Temple is more than 500 years old and was built to honour the eafarer's goddess, who was said to protect all boats on the high seas. With its vivid colours and exploding firecrackers to welcome tourists and scare off the demons,
the temple is worth a visit - even if just to pray for help, as many visitors do before throwing themselves into the vortex of casinos , pray for win.

Around Macau Area

12:00
After lunch , from the senado square turn left. Around this area I saw this new grand building of Casino Lisboa in front of it is the old building and walk to there its takes around 30 min and walked around 30 min , walked slowly to see the shop coz the weather so nice not really hot and not windy too

I am not gambling , only watched people played or see the scenery. I knew how to play was BIG-SMALL. There were many ways to play it, you can guess if the sum of the 3 dice is big/small, guess the sum of the 3 dice, guess the combination that will appear, guess any number appearing on any of the dice, etc.

No photography is allowed inside the casino so I can only take photos outside it.

Btw in Sands Casino , they offer free game each day for 1 person , its only slot machine and if you have the highest score u can win money.i tryed it today and yesterday but i am not the highest score.

I don’t remember how long I am at the Casino Lisboa or Grand Lisboa but I went to MGM Grand Casino. All within a 3-tier shimmering golden glass structure on a prime waterfront site . Not far from it is the Wynn Casino. Beautiful as the MGM Grand it showcases a grand opening of the money tree and the crystal chandelier.

SANDS
, VENETIAN ,
GRAND LISBOA
, WYNNS ,
MGM ,
LISBOA ,CROWN , etc they offer free return shuttle bus airport , macau ferry terminal or taipa ferry terminal is very frequent

EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NOT A GUEST AT THAT HOTEL (THEY DON’T ASK ABOUT IT ). So I only spend total 6.6 MOP for the transportation to my auntie’s house .

inside the bus ,

And

Macau has more than 30 casinos and the number is growing. So it will more free shuttle bus. Even I am so surprise SANDS, VENETIAN or COTAI STRIP have free ferry ticket to hongkong.

WOW and I used it..hahahahaha can save around $HK 160 for one way ticket

I went to Venetian Macau in Taipa Island. Upon arrival, I was surprised with the luxury and its grandest architecture with the Venice touch.

With a fake sky that also changes to day and night.

in the evening day spent at the Venetian Macau Resort, On the following day, I walk around the Grand Canal Shoppes.

It is a huge shopping paradise with elegant "streetmosphere", providing the most unique shopping experience in South East Asia and staff is very friendly

The Venetian Macau is right now one of the most impressive and jaw dropping buildings on earth. Owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and belonging to one of the richest men in the world, Sheldon Adelson, the Venetian Macau was modeled after it’s little sister in Las Vegas.
Built on the infamous
Cotai strip in Macau, the casino is the currently biggest in the world and a feat to human architecture.

Officially opened on 28.August 2008 Venetian Macau – the largest casino in the world
coz :
could fit 90 Boeing 747 jumbo jets into it.
3,000 suites, 1,200,000 square feet (111,000 m²) of convention space,
1,600,000 square feet (149,000 m²) of retail,
550,000 square feet (51,000 m²) of casino space – which is the largest in the world –
3,400 slot machines
800 gambling tables
15,000 seat arena for entertainment/sports events.

Venetian WC

the hotel offers so much entertainment that you could while away there for weeks and never get bored. Famous entertainers like Beyonce, The Pussycat Dolls and Celine Dion are scheduled to perform end of this year in this casino

Performing every 1 hours

Next is the only reason why I want to see Venetian is the Gondola Rides. Their gorgeous Italian gondolier serenade us with O Solo Mio (My Sun) etc drift through the San Luca, Marco Polo and Grand Canals aboard our beautifully crafted gondolas.

tips : Just make sure you take enough money with you either for gambling or for shopping hehehe

bottles collect them all - free in every casino

have a nice day all....
